Plus d’une trentaine de personnes soutenant le programme de lutte contre les mines, de Handicap International au Liban, participeront au marathon de Beyrouth - à travers la course des 10 kilomètres - le 27 novembre prochain.

Cette course qui traverse la ville leur permettra, outre de répondre à un vrai défi physique, de porter les couleurs de l’association, et de faire connaitre ses missions envers la population.
Un stand, installé à l’arrivée, présentera les activités menées pour préserver la vie des familles qui vivent dans les zones polluées par les mines, posées durant les périodes de conflits.
Handicap International, présente au Liban depuis 1992, a participé, entre 2007 et 2010, à la dépollution de zones contaminées principalement par des bombes à sous-munitions au Sud Liban (région de Tyr) et par des restes explosifs de guerre dans le camp palestinien de Nahr el Bared.

Handicap International apporte également un soutien psychologique aux enfants et aux adolescents dans les camps de réfugiés palestiniens.
Depuis 2010, Handicap International est la seule ONG menant des activités de déminage humanitaire au Nord Liban, sur des terres contenant des engins explosifs datant de la guerre civile.

Lebanon: Deminers join the Beirut marathon

More than thirty supporters of Handicap International’s anti-mine programme in Lebanon will take part in the 10km Beirut marathon on 27 November.
Following a route across the city, as well as taking part in a major physical challenge, they will be running in the organisation’s colours, and raising awareness of its missions among the population at large.

A stand SET up at the arrival point will offer information on the organisation’s efforts to save the lives of families living in areas contaminated by mines laid during recent conflicts.
Between 2007 and 2010, Handicap International, which has been present in Lebanon since 1992, helped demine areas mainly contaminated by cluster munitions in South Lebanon (Tyre region) and explosive remnants of war in the Palestinian camp of Nahr el Bared.

Handicap International also provides psychological support to children and teenagers in Palestinian refugee camps.
Since 2010, Handicap International has been the only NGO performing humanitarian demining activities in North Lebanon, on land contaminated by explosive devices dating from the civil war.
